Breed Info

Great Dane

Great Danes, often referred to as gentle giants, boast a history that traces back to ancient times when they were bred for hunting large game. Their impressive stature combined with a loyal and affectionate nature makes them a beloved choice for families. If you are looking for a breed that thrives on companionship, a Great Dane could be the perfect fit, as they are known to form strong bonds with family members, making them wonderful pets for households with children and other dogs.

Despite their size, Great Danes possess a gentle demeanor. They typically exhibit a calm and friendly temperament, which makes them well-suited for many family dynamics. While they do require regular exercise to keep them healthy and happy, their moderate energy level means daily walks and playtime will suffice, making them adaptable for various living situations. However, they may not be the best choice for apartment living due to their large size, which can make space feel tight.

Grooming a Great Dane is relatively straightforward since they only need monthly maintenance to keep their coat looking its best, and their shedding level is manageable. They are intelligent and highly trainable, responding well to positive reinforcement and establishing good manners early on can ensure they grow into well-behaved companions. With a friendly barking tendency, they can alert you to visitors without being overly boisterous, which adds to their appeal as family-friendly pets.

If you find yourself captivated by their towering presence and gentle nature, a Great Dane may just be the ideal addition to your home. Come visit us at Petland Lake St. Louis & Fenton, MO, and discover the charm of these exceptional dogs that have captured the hearts of so many.
