Breed Info

Bernese Mountain Dog

The Bernese Mountain Dog is a gentle giant known for its striking appearance and loving nature. Originating from Switzerland, this breed was initially bred to assist farmers with herding cattle and pulling carts, which speaks to their strong and sturdy physique. Their friendly disposition makes them an excellent choice for families, as they are particularly good with young children and can get along well with other pets, including dogs and cats. The Bernese Mountain Dog is affectionate and loyal, often forming strong bonds with their family members.

While these dogs are large and need space to thrive, they are not apartment-friendly due to their size and energy requirements. Their moderate energy level means they enjoy playtime and walks but are also content to lounge at home with their loved ones. Regular exercise is essential to keep them happy and healthy. Grooming is straightforward, requiring weekly brushing to manage their shedding and keep their coat in good condition.

Trainability is one of the Bernese Mountain Dog's strong points, as they are intelligent and eager to please. This breed enjoys learning and can pick up commands quickly, making obedience training a rewarding experience for both pet and owner. With their low barking tendency, they tend to be relatively quiet companions, adding to their appeal as family dogs. If you're looking to welcome a loving and gentle giant into your home, consider the Bernese Mountain Dog, available at Petland Lake St. Louis & Fenton, MO.
